Dear Elector,

I have written to you in respect of your apparent failure to vote at the Federal election held on 2 March 1996.

I have not received a reply to either the first notice or the reminder notice.

I wish to remind you that it is an offence to fail to vote at an election without a valid and sufficient reason. The penalty for failing to vote is $20.00 if paid to the Australian Electoral Commission, or a maximum fine of $50.00 (plus any court costs) if the matter is dealt with by the Court.

If you wish to avoid court proceedings, please complete the back of this notice and return it to me. If I do not receive a reply from you by 12 NOVEMBER 1996, I will conclude that you wish to have the matter dealt with by a Court.
